UFOs, Not What They Seem
There have been numerous accounts from around the world of strange airborne vehicles landing upon the earth. These vehicles have in many encounters been initially mistaken for experimental human aircraft, however most witnesses soon realize they are viewing something not crafted by
human hands. Many accounts describe the occupants of these vehicles, some human-like in appearance, and some completely otherworldly.
Let's examine some of the qualities of these "vehicles" as reported in overwhelmingly numerous accounts. The following is an excerpt from the book "Operation Trojan Horse" by John Keel.
“If they are the product of a superior intelligence with an advanced technology, they seem to be suffering from faulty workmanship. Since 1896 there have been hundreds of reports in which lone witnesses have stumbled onto grounded hard objects being repaired by their pilots. In flight, they have an astounding habit of losing pieces of metal. They seem to be ill-made, always falling apart, frequently exploding in midair. There are so many of these incidents that we must wonder if they aren’t really deliberate. Maybe they are meant to foster the belief that the objects are real and mechanical."
A Scifi Smokescreen
There have been many reports from witnesses who have encountered landed, or crashed UFOs which included details concerning the interior of the craft. Here is an excerpt from one such report from 1956:
"His chair was of a form that was quite adequate for his body and was of a vermilion red color. A central post supported it. The black box in front of the pilot resembled a dashboard, and was about 1m high and 80cm wide; on it could be seen “cat’s eyes” of the “magic eye” type, such as one sees on certain kinds of radios. Below this panel, and slightly above the feet, was to be seen a wide horizontal band with a vertical needle and certain strange signs that undoubtedly represented numerals. At the right of the pilot, a bit in front of the panel was a semi-opaque disc, like a turned-off television screen."
(Leonard Stringfield & Jose Escobar Faria)
There are many reports which feature extremely similar details. All in all, we’re presented with scenes straight out of science fiction media like a "Buck Rogers" or "Flash Gordon" film or comic strip.
Just as absurd as the physical craft appear to be, the occupants have also been reported behaving in seemingly preposterous ways for an advanced civilization on an important mission of some kind that would likely entail a great deal of planning, expense, and seriousness. Beings have frequently been reported engaging in activities such as picking flowers and other plants, drawing
water from lakes and rivers, staring at the ground and various objects, and even playing games such as throwing stones back and forth to each other.
The following is an account of a UFO encounter from 1947 which occurred in Brazil:
"Hearing a whistling sound, Jose C Higgins, a topographer, saw coming down a lens shaped object with surrounding flange; it landed 150 ft away. It was of gray white metal, about 150 ft in diameter with a 3 foot rim, and 15 ft high, “crossed by tubes in several directions,” the whistling coming from these. Metallic legs, which bent a little, supported the craft. Walking closer, he saw through a black glass window 2 persons watching him; a door opened beneath the rim, and there emerged 3 people enveloped in inflated transparent suits, with metal boxes on their backs.
They wore shirts and shorts, which looked as though made of paper rather than cloth. Their heads were almost hairless, their eyes round and large, and their legs relatively long; they were nearly 7 ft tall. All 3 looked identical. They spoke in an unknown language, and he noticed that they kept in the shade except for brief periods. One, pointing a metal tube at him, motioned Higgins to enter the door, through which he could see an inner door and the end of a “pipe.” Using gestures, Higgins asked where they came from.
One drew on the ground a dot (the sun, “Alamo” in their language) surrounded by 7 circles, and pointed alternately to the seventh circle (called “Orque” Uranus) and to their craft. Not wishing to go there, Higgins showed them a picture of his wife, indicating that he did not want to leave her, and they allowed him to go. From the forest he looked back to see them “playing like children, jumping in the air and throwing enormous stones.” After half an hour, having “carefully examined their surroundings,” they re-entered and the craft took off."
Cosmic Set Pieces?
The following is an excerpt from the book "Inside the US Government Covert UFO Program: Initial Revelations" by James T. Lacatski, Colm A. Kelleher, and George Knapp:
“At the conclusion of a 2011 meeting in the Capitol building with a U.S. Senator and an agency Under Secretary, Lacatski, the only one of this book’s authors present, posed a question. He stated that the United States was in possession of a craft of unknown origin and had successfully gained access to its interior. This craft had a streamlined configuration suitable for aerodynamic flight but no intakes, exhaust, wings, or control surfaces. In fact, it appeared not to have an engine, fuel tanks, or fuel. Lacatski asked: What was the purpose of this craft? Was it a life-support craft useful only for atmospheric reentry or what? If it was a spacecraft, then how did it operate?"
What can be inferred from the various reports detailing the qualities of these objects?
They don't appear to be spacecraft or even vehicles at all. Could they be like cosmic set pieces, designed to look like what humans might conceptualize futuristic spacecraft to look like at different periods in our technological evolution? I think the data strongly suggests this. So then, it's as if the intelligence behind this phenomenon is toying with humanity, and purposely trying to fool us. The real question is why.
Avatars And Trained Workers
Many reports post WWII have detailed UFOs crashing to earth and being scooped up by various human groups to study. The details of all these accounts don't necessarily matter. What is more intriguing to me are the implications of crashed UFOs and the fate of their "pilots". If UFOs are phoney constructs designed to fool humanity, then what can be speculated about the nature of the occupants of these objects? Many accounts of encounters and even abductions have described these UFO occupants taking genetic material from the witnesses either through medical procedures or even coerced sexual encounters. There have been cases where witnesses have even been told and shown details of programs to breed "hybrid" beings using human genetic material.
Taking these details into consideration, there could be a number of possibilities here. Perhaps a race of workers is actually being bred using human genes. That race could then be brought up and trained to carry out these UFO "missions". Or is it more likely that a more ethereal non-human intelligence is using human genetic material to create avatars that they can inhabit for a time to carry out their operations in a more physical way?
What we do know from reports is that these UFO occupants have been observed walking through solid objects, like walls, they even seemingly have the capability to allow humans to travel through solid objects as well. It is as if they can be physical and ethereal all at once. Perhaps these UFOs and their occupants are more akin to the concept of tulpas than technologically advanced beings and objects.
From Wikipedia:
"In Tibetan Buddhism and later traditions of mysticism and the paranormal, a tulpa is a materialized being or thought-form, typically in human form, that is created through spiritual practice and intense concentration."
Could these beings be materialized thought-forms that can be brought in and out of existence, perhaps through psychic means, instantaneously? If so, perhaps they could potentially be physical 3d objects one moment, and ethereal "poltergeists" the next.
Crashed UFOs, Alien Bodies, And Alleged Human Secrecy
These topics are a bit of a red herring in my opinion. These UFOs and beings who sometimes occupy them are clearly not what they seem to be on the surface. The objects appear to be cosmic set pieces meant to appear like spacecraft and the like. The objects and the beings can be both physical and ethereal. The orbs and lights that have been reported to dart around the sky and even fly right into people's homes have been reported to also leave physical traces on the individuals who have witnessed them, such as conjunctivitis and what appeared to be sunburns. Even these orbs and lights have been reported to vanish without a trace instantaneously.
So is it advanced tech? Perhaps we are dealing with technology so advanced that humanity in our current state of development cannot even conceptualize the nature of it. This phenomenon appears to be more in the realm of the paranormal.
If these objects have been studied behind closed doors, I can only imagine that the jaws of many individuals hit the floor when they realized what they were looking at.
Objects designed by a non-human intelligence to look like advanced vehicles, but with no functionality that could be determined. A great trick perpetrated on humanity.
Perhaps the reason for alleged human secrecy boils down to "we don't know".
Disclosure And A Post Pseudo-Disclosure World
If world governments that have analyzed all the data about UFOs, and studied these crashed objects and the bodies of beings associated with them decided to tell the populace about everything that is known, what would they say? I imagine it would go something like,
"UFOs are real, they are the design of a non human intelligence, but we don't know anything about the true nature of this intelligence, we don't know where these objects are coming from, we don't know how they work, they move through space but don't appear to have the capability to do so, the bodies of beings associated with the objects seem to contain human genes, but they aren't quite human, and the kicker is that we have no ability to stop or interfere with anything they do, we are essentially powerless."
Perhaps governments are sitting on the issue until scientists are able to crack some of these unknowns.
If we get human disclosure, the trajectory of the human race will change, perhaps not immediately, but I believe we would be forced to dismantle and rebuild our collective and individual framework for how we view reality and the human experience.
However, if and when we get human disclosure (if such a concept has any basis in reality), it would be a pseudo-disclosure only. True disclosure, at least for the moment, seems to be solely within the "hands" of the non-human intelligence behind these UFOs.
Part Two,
The Symbolism OF A Phenomenon
Hacking The Human Psyche
Throughout human history, there have been reports of strange objects in the sky and even on the ground. The appearance and dimensions of these objects are diverse, however there have been certain shapes which have been reported frequently by observers. The ubiquitous flying disk, which has implanted itself so deeply in the modern human psyche, is a curious example of the enormous role which symbolism plays in human communication and understanding.
The symbol of the disk (or wheel) can be seen extensively throughout various human traditions stretching far back into antiquity. In Hindu traditions there exists the Sudarshana Chakra, a disk-shaped object associated with the deity Vishnu. This disk was used symbolically to represent the wheel of time. Interestingly, the disk of Vishnu has been described as having the ability to travel anywhere, through any obstacle, in an instant. More generally and even across cultures, the disk (particularly a disk in motion, or a wheel) has represented the concepts of unity, totality, and completeness.
Psychologist Carl Jung, recognized similar symbolism contained in the Buddhist mandala.
"In 1938, I had the opportunity, in the monastery of Bhutia Busty, near Darjeeling, of talking with a Lamaic rimpoche, Lingdam Gomchen by name, about the khilkor or mandala. He explained it as a dmigs-pa (pronounced ''migpa"), a mental image which can be built up only by a fully instructed lama through the power of
imagination. He said that no mandala is like any other, they are all individually different. Also, he said, the mandalas to be found in monasteries and temples were of no particular significance because they were external representations only. The true mandala is always an inner image, which is gradually built up through (active) imagination, at such times when psychic equilibrium is disturbed or when a thought cannot be found and must be sought for, because it is not contained in holy doctrine."
(Psychology and Alchemy, volume twelve of The Collected Works of C. G. Jung)
The symbol of a disk has also been used to represent the sun, which in turn was used to symbolize concepts of divinity and power as can be seen in the religious and cosmological depictions of various cultures of the ancient near east, for example, the winged sun disk of the ancient Egyptians and Assyrians, the Aten of the religious sect established by the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten, or Amenhotep IV, the Faravahar used by the adherents of Zoroastrianism in ancient Persia, the winged solar disk associated with the ancient kingdom of Judah, and in the west, in the upper portion of the Caduceus, or staff of the ancient Greek figure of Hermes featuring a disk flanked by two outstretched wings, as well as in various early Christian iconography such as the disk-like halo around the head of Christ, symbolizing divinity.
If we look at another frequently sighted shape we can further examine the potentiality of some correlation between UFOs and deeply rooted human symbolism. The triangular and Arrowhead shaped objects which have been reported can easily correspond to signs and symbols in human
mathematical, scientific, religious, and mystical schools of thought. For example, the alchemical symbols for fire and water (also corresponding with male and female), the great pyramids of giza, and the square and compass of Freemasonry, etc.
If an advanced non-human intelligence were trying to communicate with humanity, communication through symbols would be a reasonable undertaking, however, perhaps said intelligence is using our own systems of symbolism to confound us, revealing more questions than answers. This appears to be likely based on the accumulated data on sightings and encounters and the very nature of the UFO topic.
Prometheus Or Trickster?
In Greek mythology, the Titan Prometheus stole fire from Mt. Olympus and gifted it to humanity, this fire symbolized divine, occult knowledge.
Accounts of crashed objects of non-human origin permeate the UFO topic. It has been theorized by some that these "crashes" could be a sort of gift giving procedure perpetrated by the intelligence/s behind the phenomenon. However, what if the "fire" of Prometheus isn't really "fire" at all? As we explored in part one, what is suggested by the data is that these objects aren't what they seem to be on the surface and should not be taken at face value. The intelligence behind the phenomenon seems to represent the archetype of the Trickster more than anything akin to Prometheus. What are the implications of this?
"Jung defined the trickster as “a collective shadow figure, a summation of all the inferior traits of character in individuals,”but also “a primitive ‘cosmic’ being of divine-animal nature,…which has prospects of a much higher development of consciousness based on a considerable eagerness to learn,…”The trickster, in other words, is not entirely bad. He includes both poles—negative and positive. In his negative guise, he “takes on the sacred cows of civilization,” and does not hesitate to take advantage of whomever he can. On the positive end of the polarity, the
trickster has “superhuman qualities” that can foster growth, learning, healing and creativity."
(Excerpt from an essay by Sue Mehrtens,
Here, we can return to the ancient Greek god Hermes with his staff crowned with the winged disk.
"The trickster god is universal. Known to the Native American peoples as Ictinike, Coyote, Rabbit and others, he is Mauito to the Polynesian Islanders, Loki to the old Germanic tribes of Europe, and Krishna in the sacred mythology of India. Best known to most of us in the West is the god who represents the most comprehensive and sophisticated manifestation of the trickster, the Greek god Hermes. Homer calls him the ‘Bringer of Luck.’ He is also known, in one of the many paradoxes that characterize Hermes and other trickster gods, as the patron of both travelers and thieves. He is the Guide of Souls to the underworld and messenger to the gods. As all of these roles suggest, he is the quintessential master of boundaries and transitions.
The Boundary Dweller
As the master of the unexpected, Hermes performs his magic by virtue of his command of boundaries and his ability effortlessly to cross them. Where a situation is defined by boundaries or boundary crossing, there Hermes’ presence is natural. He is the god of thresholds and transitions. In the Iliad he appears to old king Priam as the latter approaches the boundary of the Greek encampment in an effort to reclaim the body of his dead son Hector. Hermes comes to him as a young man, a guide, who leads him safely into the enemy camp, then out again. In the Odyssey, Hermes appears before Odysseus when, on Circe’s island, he approaches the witch’s dwelling in search of lost crew members that she had turned into swine. The god in the form of a youth shows the hero a magic plant to protect him from the sorceress’ charms.
In both instances the trickster bestows good fortune. Hermes is indeed ‘the friendliest of the gods to man.’ These two episodes, however, reveal a more basic aspect of the god: his appearance in boundary or threshold situations. Indeed, Hermes is the god not only of thresholds, not only physical thresholds but, more importantly, thresholds between states of human experience: between day and night,
sleep and wakefulness, between consciousness and that of which we are
unconscious, between life and death.
Karl Kerenyi, the classical scholar who has done most to enrich our understanding of Hermes, explains in Hermes: Guide of Souls his effect at psychological boundaries in terms of Hermetic journeying. Whereas ordinary traveling simply involves physical movement from one place to another, the hermetic voyager enters a boundary zone, a liminal space between ordinary states of experience. ‘In reality, he [the traveler] makes himself vanish (‘volatizes’ himself) to everyone, also to himself.’ This is the deeper meaning of the presence of a herm, the stone block representations of Hermes, at entrances to homes and along ancient highways. His presence at entryways and gates in particular suggests the condition of liminality, as do various inscriptions written on doorways and dedicated to him.
Because he is at the ‘pivot point’ between the transformations from life to death and back again, Hermes is at just that psychological nexus where transformation occurs, where for example, we are changed by new experiences and undergo
transformations into different and new persons. Wherever human experience breaks through frontiers to the unexpected or undergoes transitions, there we may find the Hermes archetype."

Boundary Crossing, Physical And Psychological
The intelligence/s behind the UFO phenomenon has consistently presented itself wrapped in layers of falsehoods. Experiencers are told things which are nonsensical, the "vehicles" which the ufonauts "travel" in frequently break down like a jalopy on the side of the road, this much is clear from the numerous reports of encounters. However, what can be said about the boundary breaking characteristics of the UFO phenomenon as it relates to the Trickster archetype?
Based on numerous reports of UFO activity in supposedly secure locations, it appears as though there is no boundary made by humanity, physical, theoretical, or ethical, that the phenomenon cannot cross. UFOs have appeared near sensitive military installations around the world just as the occupants have appeared in the security and privacy of an individual's bedroom. From
various reports of encounters it appears that even the privacy of humanity's thoughts aren't safe from intrusion.
Moving beyond the potentially negative boundary crossing, we can look at the UFO phenomenon in certain ways as being sort of akin to the obelisks from 2001: A Space Odyssey, which in turn brings us right back to the figure of Prometheus. Just as Prometheus moved humanity forward with the gift of knowledge, as with the obelisks in 2001, the encounters with the UFO phenomenon appear to move humanity in certain directions, in one direction it creates the spark of curiosity, perhaps even the spark of invention, maybe to create for instance, our own mandala of sorts, with which we can attempt to better understand the nature of the intelligence/s behind UFOs, ourselves, and our collective reality. Perhaps this has already taken place and some sort of collective mandala exists within the human psyche, if so then one could reason that maybe UFOs have more to do with inner space than outer space.
Part Three,
Mediums And Flying Saucer Contacts
Strange Messages From Other worlds?
In 1947, during a wave of sightings of strange objects in the sky, Meade Layne, director of "Borderland Sciences Research Associates" (an organization concerned with studying the "border-land" region between fantasy and reality, fields of parapsychology, the occult, psychic research, hypnosis, dowsing, radiesthesia, radionics, telepathy, and other phenomena.), penned a document concerning the recent wave of "flying saucer" sightings.
THIS MEMORANDUM is respectfully addressed to certain scientists of distinction, to important aeronautical and military authorities, to a number of public officials and to a few publications.
The writer has little expectation that anything of import will be accomplished by this gesture. The mere fact that the data herein were obtained by so-called supernormal means is probably sufficient to insure its disregard by nearly all the persons addressed; nevertheless it seems a public duty to make it available. (The present writer has several university degrees and was formerly a university department head).
A very serious situation may develop at any time with regard to the "flying saucers." If one of those should be attacked, the attacking plane will almost certainly be destroyed. In the public mind this might create near panic and international suspicion. The principal data concerning these craft is now at hand and must be offered, no matter how fantastic and unintelligible it may seem to minds not previously instructed in thinking of this type.
Part of the disks carry crews, others are under remote control.
Their mission is peaceful. The visitors contemplate settling on this plane. These visitors are human-like but much larger in size.
They are NOT excarnate earth people, but come from their own world.
They do NOT come from any "planet" as we use the word, but from an etheric planet which interpenetrates with our own and is not perceptible to us.
The bodies of the visitors, and the craft also, automatically "materialize" on entering the vibratory rate of our dense matter. (Cp. "apports.")
The disks possess a type of radiant energy, or a ray, which will easily disintegrate any attacking ship. They reenter the etheric at will, and so simply disappear from our vision, without trace.
The region from which they come is NOT the "astral plane", but corresponds to the Lokas or Talas. Students of esoteric matters will understand these terms.
(Meade Layne, 1947)
Lokas and Talas
Lokas in Hinduism are a universe, plane, or realm of existence.
In theosophy the concept was expanded upon with Lokas becoming the higher realms of existence and Talas the lower ones.
Where did this information on the saucers come from?
"On October 14, 1946, The Los Angeles Daily News reported that a number of people in San Diego believed that “a space ship from another planet” had attempted to make contact with Earth during the previous week’s meteor shower, an event caused by the passing of the Giacobini-Zinner comet. Although local authorities received no reports of anything out of the ordinary, at least a dozen people told the paper that on October 9 they had witnessed a “large and weird object” in the sky over the city. One witness was quoted as saying, “It was shaped like a bullet and left this vapor trail behind it.” Another observed that it had “something that looked like wings.” The article curiously went on to say that local occult publisher Meade
Layne was “putting a medium to work on the supposed sighting.” That medium was Mark Probert."
(Stephen Canner)
Mark Probert was a medium who allegedly channeled entities that came to be known as "The Inner Circle". His associate Meade Layne would go on to tell news sources that the "flying saucers" were "ether ships" and originated from a place appropriately called, "etheria". This information originated from the channeling carried out by Probert. Probert claimed that among the spirits he channeled were a 17th century astronomer, a 19th century clergyman, and a priest from a lost civilization in the himalayan region. Through Probert, these spirits made assertions concerning the nature of flying saucers and the universe itself, for instance, that reality is driven by consciousness.
The Socialites And The Nine
In 1952, Andrija Puharich, a doctor and parapsychologist with connections to the US Army and US intelligence agencies, invited Hindu mystic Dhundiraj G. Vinod to his research institute in Maine, "The Round Table Foundation of Electrobiology". On New Year’s Eve 1952, Vinod conducted a seance where he channeled messages from an entity calling itself "The Nine ". The following year Puharich, Vinod, and a number of observers gathered for another session where Vinod again made contact with this entity. Among the observers of this spectacle were members of the Du Pont, Astor, and Forbes families.
The entity, or rather entities, communicated that they were nine principles of the universe yet one, they had been on earth 34,000 years ago, and were "The Ennead", a group of nine ancient Egyptian deities. Ultimately they revealed that they were also extraterrestrials currently orbiting the earth in an invisible spacecraft. The validity of this information was later strengthened for Puharich when he discovered that Dorothy Martin, a medium who was associated with the UFO contact cult "The Seekers", independently claimed to have channeled messages from a group of
entities calling themselves "the nine principles", who allegedly referenced details of their earlier communication to Vinod.
Further contact with "The Nine" would be made at The Round Table, with many other notable individuals as guests. On at least one occasion, Gene Roddenberry of Star Trek fame, was in attendance. On the validity of these seances Puharich wrote:
"We took every known precaution against fraud, and the staff and I became thoroughly convinced that we were dealing with some kind of an extraordinary extraterrestrial intelligence."
What can we make of these channeled entities, assuming the accounts aren't fairy tales?
In various occult traditions, there exists the concept of "ascended masters" or "secret chiefs", beings who have attained a level of enlightenment which has essentially gained them the knowledge and ability to exist outside of a physical form. Some of these beings work to guide and influence humanity, and all sentient beings, along the path of enlightenment. This parallels the Buddhist concept of Bodhisattvas.
Could the intelligence/s behind UFOs be connected in some way to these mystical concepts? It should be noted, that in UFO contact cases, entities that are communicated with frequently provide information to contactees that is nonsensical, vague, and erroneous. For instance, they have been reported to foretell events which never come to pass.
Albert K. Bender And The Mystery Of The Men In Black
In 1953 one of the first widely circulated reports of what would be dubbed the "men in black" phenomenon took place in Bridgeport, CT, US. The strange encounters were reported by UFO researcher and founder of the "International Flying Saucer Bureau", Albert K. Bender. The case would go on to be circulated in fellow ufologist Gray Barker’s 1956 book "They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers", and Bender’s own 1963 publication "Flying Saucers and the Three Men".
The following excerpts are from "Flying Saucers and the Three Men" by Albert K. Bender.
Discord first arose at IFSB [International Flying Saucer Bureau] headquarters at a meeting held early in March 1953. We voted to hold what we would term a "World Contact Day", on which we would urge all IFSB members to attempt to send out a telepathic message to visitors from space.
On March 15, 1953, in my den at Bridgeport at exactly 6:00 pm, I proceeded to take part in the experiment as planned.
It was after the third attempt that I felt a terrible, cold chill hit my whole body. Then my head began to ache as if several headaches had saved up their anguish and heaped it upon me at one time. A strange odour reached my nostrils-like that of burning sulphur or badly decomposed eggs. Then I partly lost consciousness as the room around me began to fade away.
Suddenly I could hear a voice which permeated me but in some way did not seem to be an audible sound. The voice seemed to come from the room in front of me, which remained pitch dark.
"We have been watching you and your activities. Please be advised to discontinue delving into the mysteries of the universe. We will make an appearance if you disobey."
"We have a special assignment,"
"…and must not be disturbed by your people."
"We are among you and know your every move, so please be advised we are here on your Earth."
Soon afterward I would have the biggest shock in the chain of frightening events.
The room seemed to grow dark, yet I could still see. I noted three shadowy figures in the room. They floated about a foot off the floor.
All of them were dressed in black clothes. They looked like clergymen, but wore hats similar to Homburg style. The faces were not clearly discernible, for the hats partly hid and shaded them.
The eyes of all three figures suddenly lit up like flashlight bulbs, and all these were focused upon me.
It was then I sensed that they were conveying a message to me by telepathy. Their message went something like this:
"You have dedicated yourself to the solution of the strange problem of unidentified objects in your atmosphere. Your interest is deep and sincere and you have devoted many hours to it. We also know that such interest and determination might lead to something that could bring you harm. We feel that you are a very good contact for
us on your planet of Earth. You are an average person, and we know that what we tell you and show you will not be believed by anyone you might tell.”
"…We will leave with you a small piece of metal similar to your coins. It is to be kept in a secret place of your own.”
I was to keep the piece of metal and when I wished to make contact with them I should hold it tightly in my palm and close my eyes, at the same time repeating "Kazik", and turn on my radio.
Shortly after these encounters, the final issue of Bender's quarterly journal "Space Review" was released. It contained the following message:
"The mystery of the flying saucers is no longer a mystery. The source is already known but any information about this is being withheld by orders from a higher source. We would like to print the full story in Space Review but because of the nature of the information we have been advised in the negative. We advise those engaged in saucer work to be very cautious.”
Similar encounters with strange "men" dressed in black would subsequently be reported over the coming decades in connection with UFO sightings and encounters, becoming a fixture of the UFO subject and in popular culture at large. Interestingly, the messages conveyed by these strange characters essentially remained the same; "discontinue investigating UFOs".
Could this be a mirror image reflecting alleged human secrecy and shenanigans concerning the UFO topic? Or do entities whose nature is currently unknown want to remain hidden and covert in their operations? Based on what has been revealed thus far, I believe it is relatively safe to guess that whenever communication with intelligences allegedly connected to UFO phenomena is attempted or received, it is not unlikely that our old friend the “Trickster” is potentially lurking about, waiting to make an appearance.

Sex And Saucers
In 1945, Jack Parsons, pioneer of American rocketry and co-founder of "Jet Propulsion Laboratory", began a series of occult rituals designed to evoke the Thelemic deity "Babalon". Parsons, who was an adherent of "Thelema", the tradition founded by famed British occultist Aleister Crowley, had set up a sort of magical commune at his home in Pasadena, California, where numerous like minded individuals came and went, lived together, and performed various rituals including forms of sex magic.
One of these like minded people who eventually turned up at Jack’s doorstep was science fiction author and the future founder of "Scientology" L. Ron Hubbard. Of Hubbard Parsons wrote,
"...he has an extraordinary amount of experience and understanding in the field. (Ritual magic) From some of his experiences I deduce he is in direct touch with some higher intelligence, possibly his guardian angel."
The two quickly became friends and magical partners in the evocation rituals of the goddess Babalon. The purpose of this evocation was designed by Parsons in order to bring the spirit of this deity, namely of sex/love, into the then wartorn world.
On these rituals fellow Crowley disciple Kenneth Grant would later write,
“The working began in 1945-46, a few months before Crowley's death in 1947, and just prior to the wave of unexplained aerial phenomena now recalled as the 'Great Flying Saucer Flap'... Parsons opened a door and something flew in.”
Of course, strange objects in the sky and associated anomalous phenomena have been reported since antiquity. The idea that Parsons was responsible for UFOs is therefore nonsensical. However, could the rituals conducted in the Mojave desert have resulted in an increase in UFO activity in the region?
There is a curious link to sex in accounts of UFO encounters. There have been many reports of individuals engaged in sexual activity who have subsequently had sightings and encounters of the anomalous variety. Author and UFO researcher John Keel wrote a good deal about such events which were reported by individuals who had witnessed strange lights, objects, and even beings whilst parked in cars at night in "lovers lanes".
Contactees and abductees have also reported encounters which feature medical procedures with sexual undertones, and even voluntary and coerced sexual activity with seemingly non-human beings.
The following excerpt is from the account of Antonio Vilas Boas, who was taken against his will aboard a strange craft which landed on his family's farm in Brazil in 1957:
The Succubus
Boas says he was left alone for about an hour and made himself comfortable on a large, featureless foam rubber-like gray bed or couch in the middle of the room, with no legs. From holes in the wall from about the height of his head came tufts of gray smoke that quickly dissolved. At first, Boas felt nauseated and as though he was being suffocated. Then he rushed to one corner of the room, vomited, and after that his breathing was easier. A little while later a door opened and in walked a naked woman!
Boas recounts that the woman came toward him "in silence looking at me all the while as if she wanted something from me." Pressing herself to him, he understood what her purpose was. "I began to get excited ... I ended up forgetting everything and held the woman close to me, corresponding to her favors with greater ones of my own." Apparently, they had two sexual encounters and performed a variety of acts together for about an hour, after which the woman pulled away to leave.
"All they wanted [was] a good stallion to improve their stock," Boas would say. He said that he enjoyed the encounter, even if the woman refused to kiss. Bruce Rux remarked that after all, he had just thrown up. Instead the "woman" preferred to bite his chin, while making sounds, that in Boas' mind, sounded like "animal growls." She never spoke. When they were finished , one of the other creatures entered and called out to the woman. "But before leaving, she pointed to her belly, and smilingly (as well as she could smile) pointed to the sky—southward, I should say. Then she went away."

What other seemingly "magical" connections can be found in reports of UFO and UFO related phenomena?
Prophecies From Lanulos
On November 2, 1966, a salesman for a sewing machine company named Woodrow Derenberger was returning home from an out of state trip when he had an incredibly strange encounter.
As he was driving on interstate 77 near Parkersburg, West Virginia, he spotted a strange airborne object quickly coming up behind his vehicle. The object passed over him and descended until it was hovering just above the road where it abruptly stopped, effectively blocking Derenberger from continuing forward. He described the object as charcoal grey in color, and looking like an old fashioned kerosene lamp turned on its side. As he sat in his car examining the object, what appeared to be a door in the object opened and a man exited and made his way over to him. Woodrow described the stranger as being about 6 feet in height, with a tan complexion, and dark hair which was combed back. He wore what resembled a navy blue business suit which appeared shiny and metallic, underneath a dark top coat.
This strange man communicated telepathically with Woodrow and said that his name was "Cold". He communicated that he meant him no harm, asked various questions, and told him to tell others of this visitation. Finally he told Woodrow that he would visit him again sometime, before proceeding to reenter the craft, which promptly took off into the air and flew out of sight. Later on Woodrow reported that the stranger did in fact pay him another visit and revealed that his full name was Indrid Cold, and that he was an extraterrestrial visitor from a planet called "Lanulos".
Subsequent encounters with a similar looking individual giving the name Indrid Cold were reported throughout West Virginia. UFO researcher and author John Keel, documented many of these accounts, as well as reports of strange phone calls from individuals with robotic sounding voices which referenced the Derenberger visitation. Keel himself even received a phone call from an individual calling himself Indrid Cold while he was in Point Pleasant, West Virginia investigating sightings of a large winged humanoid. Keel was warned by Cold not to return to the area because of an impending disaster which would soon take place. Shortly after, the Silver Bridge which spanned the Ohio River and connected Point Pleasant and Gallipolis, Ohio collapsed, resulting in the deaths of 46 people.
Mothman, Or A Native American Curse?
Beginning in 1966, individuals around Point Pleasant began reporting frightening encounters with a dark, winged, humanoid creature with glowing red eyes. The creature was frequently reported to chase automobiles and fly straight up into the air like a helicopter. Witnesses also described a strange hypnotic-like quality associated with the encounters. These reports were
subsequently investigated by local authorities, and the creature was dubbed the "Mothman" by the press.
While the Mothman was busy terrorizing motorists, our friend Indrid Cold was also paying visits to the residents of Point Pleasant and the surrounding area. John Keel, who investigated many of these reports first hand, believed there could possibly be a connection between the respective otherworldly visitors. As discussed previously, this flurry of paranormal activity ultimately culminated in a terrible disaster. Could there be more than meets the eye concerning the Mothman and the paranormal activity which both frightened and bewildered the residents of Point Pleasant?
Perhaps we can get some answers by examining equally tumultuous events from West Virginia's distant past.
Tensions ran high throughout the Kanawha Valley in West Virginia during the autumn of 1774. A confederation of Native American tribes had been formed to stand against the encroaching colonial settlers. On October 10, 1774, they fought against the Virginia militia in the "Battle of Point Pleasant". Two notable leaders of this alliance were Shawnee Chief Hokoleskwa, known as "Cornstalk" to the settlers, and Delaware Chief Red Hawk. After three long years of conflict, in October of 1777, Chiefs Cornstalk and Red Hawk traveled to Fort Randolph in Point Pleasant to warn the militia about possible future attacks on American settlements, and to attempt to negotiate a treaty in hopes of avoiding further bloodshed.
The two men were subsequently detained at the fort along with Cornstalk's son Ellinipisco. On November 10th, after a militiaman was killed by natives, his angry compatriots broke into the quarters where Cornstalk, Red Hawk, and Ellinipisco were being held and murdered them in cold blood. Legends say that as he lay dying Chief Cornstalk uttered a curse concerning not just his killers, but the Kanawha Valley itself.
“I was the border man’s friend. Many times I have saved him and his people from harm. I never warred with you, but only to protect our wigwams and lands. I refused to join your paleface enemies with the red coats. I came to the fort as your friend and you murdered me. You have murdered by my side, my young son. For this, may the curse of the Great Spirit rest upon this land. May it be blighted by nature. May it even be blighted by its hopes. May the strength of its peoples be paralyzed by the stain of our blood.”
It is an eerie fact that the Kanawha Valley area has been plagued with various disasters, including the 1967 collapse of the Silver Bridge, up to the present day.
Could these events, and the otherworldly encounters of 1966-67 really be connected with a curse?
James G. Jones, who was a Professor of History at Glenville State College in Glenville WV, postulated in his book "Haunted Valley, And More Folk Tales of Appalachia", that the winged creature which had been reported during the period leading up to the Silver Bridge disaster could have been related in some fashion to the "totem-spirit" of the murdered Delaware Chief Red Hawk.
Interestingly, in certain Native American traditions the symbolism surrounding the hawk represents such concepts as a messenger, intuition, visionary power, and guardianship. Could the Mothman have actually been the totem-spirit of Red Hawk? With it's red eyes and outstretched wings, since 1967 it has come to represent a foreboding message of imminent disaster.
Human Endeavors As Magical Workings
What can we make of all this? John Keel believed that UFO phenomena perhaps had an ultraterrestrial (an advanced intelligence/s whose ultimate origin is the Earth) origin, and pointed out, as many others have as well, that the manifestations of the phenomena are observed on Earth, not in outer space. Perhaps the intelligence/s behind UFOs is akin to a sort of "Anima Mundi" (a great spirit, or spirits of the Earth). If this intelligence/s is attempting to communicate, how can we decipher the messages?
Perhaps the answers have been with us since time immemorial, hidden in the teachings and traditions of humanity since we first evolved the capacity to construct myths and legends to attempt to explain our place in the universe. Could it be that we are daily engaged in a form of ritual magic without even being aware of it? Not just the "magic" involved in manifesting our conceptions of mythology, art, and the sciences in the material world, of translating the dreams of the human psyche into something that we can see and touch, but something more elusive. Could this same force be involved with the inherent "magic" of UFOs as well?
